So I called the E.R. just now and said I'd like to file a formal complaint against the bastard who told me I had emphysema without running even one single test on me.
I spoke with the head of the nursing department who was extremely helpful, and she was shocked that a doctor would send someone in obvious respiratory distress out the door without so much as a chest X-Ray. It turns out he's not a resident, but a contractor.
He told me that my lungs sounded bad all over, so it couldn't be pneumonia. Seriously, every time he listened to my chest, he said, "Yuck!" Every time he moved his stethoscope to another part of my chest to listen, he'd just repeat, "Yuck!" If my lungs sounded that bad all over, WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T HE ORDER AN X-RAY?!?!?
She's also worried that I need to go back to the ER to make sure I don't have pneumonia. She could tell over the phone that my lungs are in really bad shape.
So I'm going back in. Wish me luck.
